Emergency Services are dispatched from the Isle of Wight Courthouse
Complex centrally located in the county. This dispatch center is
referred to as "Central". There are 5 fire departments and 2
rescue squads that are located in the county and The Chuckatuck
Volunteer Fire Department (City of Suffolk) covers a portion of the
county as well.
Calls are
"pre-alerted" (A short tone with Incident location and Type of
Call) before the actual station tones are "dropped". After the
first unit marks enroute to the incident, additional comments are
relayed by the dispatcher to responding units.
