Squad
Honors Captain

Brian
Carroll, Captain of the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad, was named Squad
Member of the Year Saturday night at the annual rescue squad banquet.
The
squad member of the year typically goes to the person who "busted
their hump all year," said Rescue Squad President John Treier.
In
all, the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad responded to 2,275 calls with an
improved average response time of 1:05 per call, Carroll said.
Carroll
also mentioned, to the county officials present — Smithfield
Supervisor Tom Ivy, Assistant County Administrator Patrick Small and
Director of Emergency Management Richard Childress —that the squad
needs more ambulances.
The
squad also honored Tommy Taylor, a former member who died in 2006, as
well as Auxiliary volunteer of the year, Barbara Rawls.
Captain's
awards went to Dana Bartlett, Destiney Bennett, Neal Bennett, Taylor
Blunt, Gary Burke, Wendy Burke, Angela Cain, Peter Carlson, Brian
Carroll, Susan Carroll, Tom Cronley, Doris Daniels, Fredrik Eng, Mary
Epling, Dale Fitzwater, Russ Frohman, Phil Frix, Earl Green, Lynn
Greene, Ginny Gwaltney, Stephen Haigh, Bobby Holloman, Kim Keith, Joan
Kranz, Lindsey Lee, Jeff Looney, Matthew Lyons, Julia Makela, Rene
Merciez, Anthony Miller, Grady Miller, Lician Mirra, Vin Pulley, Conrad
Reisinger, Jason Rodman, Clay Richter, Robin Richter, Sharon
Springfield, Brian Supples, Stuart Sweetman, John Treier, Bobby
Wongroski, Kira Wongroski, Joe Wright and Lauren Wright.
In
addition, ten-year service awards went to Susan Carroll and Chuck Glasco,
who serves on both the Isle of Wight and Windsor Rescue Squads as well
as being a deputy with the Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office. Vin Pulley
was awarded a 25-year service award.
