Riverside Smithfield Hospital is now open

On January 6 2026 at 0824 Medic 64 staffed by Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad and Isle of Wight Fire Rescue staff transported the first patient to our new hospital, Riverside Smithfield Hospital. As of this moment, Riverside Smithfield Hospital is officially open and accepting patients. Are you interested in emergency services but have no prior certifications? Our Recruit Program may be for you. No certifications are required to join (must be 18+), and we’ll provide the training you need — including CPR, EMT-B, and EVOC. You’ll have 12 months to complete your certifications while assisting with at least 12 hours of administrative or station duties each month.

Large Brush Fire Incident Rehab 11/16

IWVRS would like to thank Dardens Country Store for providing food, drinks, and hospitality to all of the first responders today. IWVRS and other agencies distributed the provisions to working crews at the large brush fire incident around Bowling Green road. Incident command was set up just outside the store and crews remain on scene into the night, but the fire is contained at this time.
