Riverside Smithfield Hospital is now open

On January 6 2026 at 0824 Medic 64 staffed by Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad and Isle of Wight Fire Rescue staff transported the first patient to our new hospital, Riverside Smithfield Hospital. As of this moment, Riverside Smithfield Hospital is officially open and accepting patients. Large Brush Fire Incident Rehab 11/16

IWVRS would like to thank Dardens Country Store for providing food, drinks, and hospitality to all of the first responders today. IWVRS and other agencies distributed the provisions to working crews at the large brush fire incident around Bowling Green road. Incident command was set up just outside the store and crews remain on scene into the night, but the fire is contained at this time.
